military.

July 25th, Visiting the Civil War Battle fields at Gettysburg, PA

July 18th, Ralph Mianti described the American Legion Baseball program and called for programs
to be started in Westchester.

July 11th, Westchester Girl Scouts and their leaders who sent 40,000 boxes of cookies to US
military members in the middle east were the special guests. Pelham native, now Central
Command staffer Col. Roland Tiso describes the appreciation of soldiers receiving support from
the public while they are deployed. The 30 year US Army veteran describes his forthcoming book.

July 4th:  A special expanded edition of the veterans hour starting at 6:45 AM and
running through 9  AM featured call-ins by seven members of the New York National
Guard stationed in Afghanistan.  Asailor and a US Army 2LT called in from Iraq.  Several
other military veterans also called in to describe there military expereinces and and be
recognized for their service on the holiday..


June 27th, Jerry Ketchum, the NY State Commander of the Sons of the American
Legion described the many veteran and military support programs organized by the
"Sons" in New York.

June 20th Congresswoman Nita Lowey discussed passage of the New GI Bill in the
House of Representatives the night before and her visits to Meet the Press with Tim
Rusertt.

June 20th Michael Patterson discussed his website which honors servicemen and
women interred at Arlington National Cemetery.  


June 13th, The significance of Flag Day is discussed by Bob and Ken.  Navy Veteran
Bob Frost describes his Fleet Week sail and the WWII story represented by the
destroyer
USS The Sullivans.

June 6th,  Author Bill Nowlin discussed his book, Ted Williams at War,which covers the
military years that Ted Williams took off from the Boston Red Sox to serve as a pilot
during both WWII and  the Korean War.

May 30th, New GI Bill discussed with Steve Robertson, Director of the National
Legislative Commission of the American Legion and Frank Morganthaller, Commander
of the Eastchester Post of the American Legion.   John Harper filled in as show host.


May 23rd,  We described visit to NYC Fleet Week and previewed the Memorial Day
parades in Pelham and New Rochelle and interviewed Pelham Grand Marshall Bill Ioris,
a 35 year veteran of the US Ary and US Air Force.

May 9th, Ken Kraetzer presented the story of famed submarine Commander Dudley
"Mush" Morton lost during WWII aboard USS Wahoo  and his son Pelham Memorial
High School graduate Douglas Morton.  


May 16th John Chuhran discussed the Westchester Armed Forces Day parade and
Medal of Honor ceremony

May 2nd:  New York City Fleet Week was discussed with US Navy Public Information
officer Lt. Lesley Lykins.

April 25th State Assemblyman Greg Ball described legislation he is sponsoring to
provide free college tuition to returning servicemen and women at the NY State public
universities.

April 18th National Commander of the American Legion Martin "Marty" Conatser called
in to the program while visiting New York State.  The Commander described his travels
across the country speaking to active military and veterans groups.  He also discussed
visits to Vietnam on behalf of the search for MIAs and Iraq to visit with troops.
Commander Conatser described the recent success in working with Congress to
increase VA spending $11 Billion.

















April 11th:  Ned Benton of the Larchmont Historical Society, and a professor at both
John Jay and West Point, described the website tribute to Larchmont residents killed
during military service.   



April 4th,  Ken Kraetzer provided a summer of the American Legion meetings earlier in
the week in Washington DC.  During the visit wreathes were placed at the WWII,
Korean, and Vietnam Memorials and Ken found several graves sites of Pelham
residents interred at Arlington cemetery.  Ken described hearing the remarks of
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelossi and visits to the offices of five Congressional
members including all three Westchester Representatives.

March 28th Lauretta Barnaskey, President of the Westchester County Ladies Auxiliary
of the American Legion.  Requested support for programs which support the Auxiliary
efforts at the Veterans Facility at Montrose, NY.


March 14th:  SGM John Strock described the "Army Team Salute", a free recognition
program offered by the US Army to all Army veterans.  Honorees receive a
"Recognition Package" that includes a letter of appreciation signed by the Secretary of
the Army.





















March 7th,  New Rochelle resident and US Navy veteran Bob Frost compared his 1960's
tour on the WWII era destroyer
USS Fletcher with a sail last year on the USS Winston
Churchill as a guest of the Navy NYC Fleet Week.  He described being at sea for the
Cuban Misslile Crisis as well as recovering astronauts in the Pacific.

February 29th, John Dunleavy, Chairman of the New York City St. Patrick's Day parade
visited in studio to describe parade preparations and the appearance of numerous
military regiments, bands, and color guards in the parade.























February 26, 2008 Ken Kraetzer and Bob Marrone discuss the history of the New
Rochelle Armory founded by CDR Kenneth Francis Gundlach, the passing of a number
of recent WWII veterans from the area, including Dr. Andrew Franks, Rocco Goia, and
Norm Rielly.  Also discussed was the Army Freedom Team Salute, and how the public
can send packages to trrops.



February 22nd, snowed out.

February 8th  State Assembly Woman Amy Paulin discussed two bills she has
sponsored in the New York State Assembly providing tax reductions for veterans.

February 1st,  The 65th anniversary of the Loss of the "Four Chaplains at sea on
torpedoed USS Dorchester presented with guest David Fox, executive director of the
Four Chaplains Memorial Association.

January 25th Training of US Navy submarine officers with former US Navy officer Rich
Byrne, a graduate of Manhattan College

January 14th Commemoration of Martin Luther King, Ken Kraetzer and Post 50 Pelham
member Ron Guistino   described the lives and heroism of Pelham's: Lt. Eugene Evans
and Lt. Col. Eli Page Howard Jr.,  PMHS and Morgan State athletes killed in service in
Korea and Vietnam.
