105th Airlift Wing, New York Air National Guard
The 105th Airlift Wing has more than 1,400 assigned personnel in over 90 career fields.
The base is assigned 13 C-5A Galaxy strategic airlifters. We are a component of
the Air National Guard and have dual missions, one federal and one state. When
federally activated we respond to the nation‟s needs as a fully trained reserve for
the United States Air Force. We are always ready to respond to the needs of New York
for contingencies here at home. The Wing's flying component; 137th Airlift Squadron,
regularly fly missions around the world in support of our nation's armed forces in support of
the war on terrorism.
Since the launch of our C-5 mission in 1985 the unit has proudly supported the airlift needs
of our nation in every major contingency. Also, the 105th Airlift Wing has supported
humanitarian missions around the globe, across the nation and right here in New York
State. Stewart also hosts two tenant units, the 213th Engineering Installation Squadron,
New York Air National Guard and Marine Air Group 49, Detachment B, USMC Reserve
which operates 14 KC-130T aircraft.
The 105th Airlift Wing is comprised of 16 squadrons and flights. Our personnel hold
positions such as aircrew, aircraft maintainers, cargo handlers and information technology,
to name a few. Many of the Wing's 1,400 personnel, with 600 full-time employees, are from
the Greater Metropolitan Area and roughly 80 percent are from the Hudson Valley Region.
Maj. Bruno R. Gaita, a native of New Rochelle, NY and graduate of Iona College, is
