THOMAS G. MEIER
Biography
Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Meier retired from the United States Army in January 2002 after
Twenty-Five Years of Service to his country.
LTC Meier joined the New York Army National Guard in January 1977 and served as an enlisted
soldier up to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He attended the Officer Candidate School in Fort
Benning, GA, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in June of 1981. He was assigned
Platoon Leader of the Signal Operations Platoon while serving as the Full Time Training Officer of
the 101st Signal Battalion, NYARNG. He continued to serve on Active Guard/Reserve Status as
the Battalion S-1 until 1989 when he transferred to the 187th Signal Brigade and served as the
Brigade Plans Officer. He was promoted to Major and served as the Brigade C-E Engineer Branch
Chief. In 1991 he was also assigned as the Full Time Commander of the New York City
Counter-drug Task Force in addition to his M-day position. He served in that capacity from 1991
thru his retirement in 2002 with the mission of supporting Federal, State and Local Drug Law
Enforcement Agencies throughout the Metropolitan New York City Area. His other M-Day National
Guard assignments included Acting S-3 of the 187th Signal Brigade, Signal Officer of the 107th
Corps Support Group, and Deputy Director of Joint Military Support Operations for the Division of
Military and Naval Affairs of New York.
LTC Meier is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Army
Logistical Management College and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research in
Peacekeeping operations. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and
is working on his Masters degree in Military Science and Public Policy.
After his retirement from the United States Army he was hired as the Director of Drug Prevention
and STOP-DWI for Westchester County where he has increased DWI arrests in the county by over
70%. He has established many innovative programs to address underage drinking and teenage
drug abuse, galvanizing the 42 local communities under one county wide coalition.
In 2004 County Executive Spano appointed LTC Meier to also serve as the Director of Veterans
Services. LTC Meier is responsible for services to over 70,000 Veterans in the Westchester
County area. LTC Meier has increased communication between Veterans, County Government
and State Government through a quarterly Newsletter and a semi-annual Veterans Town Hall
Meeting. The VSA Works very closely with both the Montrose and Bronx VA Hospitals.
LTC Meier is a member of the American Legion, a Life Member of the Signal Corps Regiment
Association, and many other service related organizations in addition to his membership in the
Benevolent and Protective order of Elks, an organization credited with building one of the very first
Veterans Hospitals in the United States.
LTC Meier was born and raised in Yonkers, New York, where he currently resides with his Wife
Judith. They have two children Thomas (25) and Samantha (23) and one Grandson Vaughn
Thomas Meier (4 Months).
