Captain Mike Horne, US Army: originally from Dedham, MA, is a 2004 Providence
College graduate. While at PC, he was involved with Urban Action - a community
service organization comprised of about 15-20 sophomores, juniors, and seniors
and about 200 incoming freshmen - "We cleaned up local sites within the city of
Providence - focusing on youth centers and schools. Also, I played on the rugby
team for four years and was heavily involved with the Army ROTC program".
We trained up again, and deployed in September of 2007. I was stationed at a
small patrol base 10 miles south of Baghdad in a small town called Lutifiyah for
about 6 months and then moved up to FOB Mahmudiyah for the remaining 7
months.
We then redeployed back to Ft. Campbell, KY and I am now in the process of
transitioning from the military and am currently residing in Holliston, MA. I will be
joining the Rhode Island National Guard in May when I am officially off of active
duty".
"Upon graduation, I moved to Ft. Sill, OK for field artillery officer basic course.
Upon completion of training, I then moved to Ft. Campbell, KY to be stationed with
3rd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. I had about a 6 month train up as a
company fire support officer at Ft. Campbell, and then deployed in September of
2005".
"We deployed to FOB Falcon located in southern Baghdad to pull security for the
December elections. After the elections, we moved North to the city of Samarra at
FOB Brassfield-Mora. We spent the remaining 9 months of our tour patrolling in
and around Samarra.
We redeployed in September of 2006 back to Ft. Campbell, KY. I then took over
as an executive officer for a field artillery battery - responsible for all logistical and
administrative needs of the unit.
