Please help us ‘Support Our Troops’ this Christmas
Care Package Drive at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont, NY
The public is invited to participate in an effort to prepare over 700 packing boxes to send to our
Troops serving in Iraq & Afghanistan. In the St. Augustine’s Church Cafeteria (18 Cherry Avenue
Larchmont, NY 10538) from 10am – 1pm. OK to send names and addresses of deployed military
members. 2007 Christmas Package Drive – 715 boxes sent.
Residents are encouraged to donate items ranging from non-perishable food and toiletries to
magazines and socks. A complete list of items needed can be found at www.carepackagedrive.com.
Monetary donations are also appreciated to help defray the shipping costs since each box will cost
$10.95. Please make your check payable to St. Augustine’s Church and send to Support Our
Troops, 40 Cherry Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801.
This is the sixth Support Our Troops drive which was started by New Rochelle resident Jennie
McFarland. McFarland started the Support Our Troops package drive at St. Augustine’s Church
when her husband was serving in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps in 2006. Thanks to the
generous support of the community in the past two and a half years, the group has sent over 2,000
care packages to many grateful service men and women.

Gifts for Fischer House in Washington DC
Joanna Marino, is a graduate of Pelham Memorial High School Class of 2001, and American
University. She is a volunteer at Fisher House in Washington D.C. Fischer Houses are residential
facilities around the country generally near major hospitals able to house injured soldiers and their
families receiving treatment at major hospitals. This is a chartable activity highly supported by the
American Legion.
Joanne is collecting funds to by gifts for the soldiers at the Fischer House in DC

Help a Navy Officer Build a School in Kenya
Fr. Martin Martiny OP a retired 20 year US Navy officer, is now serving as a Missionary of the
Dominican Order. He is now serving in Kismu, Kenya and building a new school to serve the
children there effected by the violence following the January 2008 elections.
The new school is part of the Fr. Tom's Kid's program named after Fr. Tom Heath, a graduate of
Boston College who became a Dominican missionary and who died at age 84 as the result of
robbery at the mission in Kenya. For more information please access the website:
