Stories of Pelham Residents who Died during the Spanish-American War:

Pvt. Harry D. Patterson,
a native of North Pelham, NY; was the son of Judge and
Mrs. Edward Patterson.  He was a member of Company G, of the 8th New York
Volunteer Infantry..   He died on August 28, 1898 and was buried at the
Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN Plot S 13250.  The New York

During the Nineteenth Century
James A. "Pony" Moore

A resident of Pelham Manor born approximately 1861, he was
honored at the 1933 Memorial Day parade.

Fought with General Custer and General Crook against the
Sioux Indians.  Served under Gen. Custer's command until a
short time before Custer's last stand.  

Served with General Crook at many engagements along the Big
Horn and Little Big Horn that defeated the Sioux as a fighting
force.

Moore gained considerable renown as a jockey after his military
days.  He lived on Windsor Place.
