Visit to Arlington Cemetery Chaplains' Hill March 2009
|
The Sons of the American Legion have proposed a project to add to and refurbish the
Chaplain's Hill Area of Arlington National Cemetery.
Chaplain's Hill is located between the main gate of Arlington Cemetery on the road towards the
Tomb of the Unknowns. In addition to grave sites for many chaplains are three monuments
honoring Catholic Chaplains, Chaplains Lost in WWI, and Protestant Chaplains.
Proposed for the area are;
A monument honoring at least five Jewish Chaplains Killed In service.
A monument honoring other Chaplains KIA during the 20th Century not already recognized
providing room to honor future chaplains.
A Stone honoring the story of the WWII Four Chaplains lost in February 1943 when the troop
ship Dorchester was torpedoed in the North Atlantic.
A Walkway or staircase to the summit and the monuments.
A Garden area.
Joining the Sons of the American Legion in supporting the project are the Jewish War
Veterans, the Immortal Chaplains Association, and the Brooklyn Wall Of Remembrance.
