S On Friday July 4th, Post 50 SAL 50 in cooperation with the US Army and US
Navy Offices of Public Information in New York City organized a special radio
show on WVOX 1460 AM and WVOX.com interviewing members of the US
military located at both domestic and overseas locations.   Seven members of the
NY National Guard called in from bases in Afghanistan.  Additionally members of
the US Army and US Navy stationed in Iraq called in to the program.  The special
holiday show was broadcast from 6:30 AM to 9 AM as part of Bob Marrone's
"Good Morning Westchester" radio program.  Recordings of the interviews

On August 6th, Lt. Burke Jenson of the US Navy joined Post 50
SAL 50 members to help prepare packages mailed to US
servicemen and women stationed overseas.
On August 8th, the Pelham Post 50 SAL 50 produced American Legion "Veterans Radio Segment"
interviewed two sailors at sea on board the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.  A recording is

Army veterans Robert McGuirl and John Dunleavy of Post 50 were honored prior to the NY
Mets game on Sept. 7th during a Freedom Team Salute ceremony conducted by the US Army.  
Also recognized was Loretta Barnaskey, President of the Westchester County American Legion
Auxiliary and Robert DuPay, the COO and President of Major League Baseball
In 1943 on the bridge of USS Wahoo, XO Richard H. O'Kane and the legendary
Commanding Officer LCDR Dudley "Mush" Morton.  After WWII CDR Morton's family
settled in Pelham.  The Wahoo was honored on Oct. 11th in Pelham, among the speakers
were Congresswoman Nita Lowey and CDR James Gray CO of the USS Texas.  The US
Navy band based in Newport RI preceded the tribute with a Concert of patriotic music.
Past Post 50 Commander Phil Perrorazio, pictured with US Navy Admiral Greenert on
board USS Nassau at an October 12th reception in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the
Great White Fleet, was  the guest of honor at Pelham Post 50 SAL 50's annual dinner on
November 7th at the Davenport Club.  CDR Perrorazio was honored for his two years of
leadership of Post 50.
American Legion Post 50 & Sons of the American Legion Squadron 50 lead color guard
ceremony honoring the New York National Guard prior to Mets - Phillies game at Shea
Stadium on Sunday Sept. 7th.  Participating in the ceremony were members of the "Fighting
69th" Regiment, the 258th Field Artillery, The Washington Grays" from Jamaica, Queens; and
sailors from the US Submarine Base at Groton, CT.
