Grand Marshall Col. William F. Ioris, a World War Two B29 pilot with the US Army Air
Forces and 35 year veteran of the military lead the Pelham Memorial Day parade held on
Monday May 26th in the Villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor, Westchester County,
    New York.

Pelham for the sixth consecutive year hosted 40 US Navy Sailors and Marines
participating in New York City Fleet Week.  The sailors were from the USS Kearsarge
and the Marines from Camp LeJeune, North Carolina.  Pelham previously hosted
members of the crew of the Kearsarge two years ago.

Many Pelham organizations, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Pelham Civics, Rotary,
Larks, and Town of Pelham officials marched in the parade which started on the
Esplanade in Pelham Manor, proceeded down Wolf's Lane past Pelham Memorial High
School and finished in front of the Pelham Veteran's park on Fifth Avenue.

At the Memorial Day Ceremony held at Pelham's Veterans Park following the parade, the
35 years military service in the Army and Air Force of Grand Marshall Ioris was
recognized.  Lt. Col. Paul Sarat,  stationed at the United States Military Academy at West
Point, gave the keynote address.  The stories of four Pelham residents killed during WWII
were read by students from Pelham Memorial High School.  In the solemn culmination of
the ceremony, he names of Pelham's 87 natives and residents who died during war time
military service were read by past Post Commander Joseph Durnin.
