Post 50 SAL Trip organized a WWII 60th Anniversary ceremony
at Shea Stadium before the Mets game on Sept. 15th 2005.
Post 50 provided a color guard and its large American flag.
Posts from Mt. Kisco, Bronx NY, and Elmont, Long Island also
participated with color guards.  A number of WWII veterans
were welcomed onto the field during the national anthem.
Baseball great Frank Robinson was the manager of the
Washington nationals that night and led his team to the top
step of the dugout for the ceremony.

The event began with a video provided by the Pentagon
Channel describing the feelings of WWII veterans being
remembered.  The public address announcer read that over
42,000 New York State residents had been lost in service to
our country during WWII.  The Mets arranged for fireworks to
go off during the national anthem which made the event
seem very special.  The two spiraling logos of the WWII 60th
Anniversary Committee were added to the right field
scoreboard.

Post 50 and the American Legion very much appreciate the
support of the NY Mets for this ceremony.
