Post 50 SAL Trip to Italy May 2005 to Participate and Conduct
in World War II 60th Anniversary Ceremonies.
The following are pictures from our visit to Monte Cassino on May 3,
2005, the site in 1944 of a months long siege by Allied forces to the
this strategic hilltop which controlled the valley pass to Rome. Post
50 members toured the monastery rebuilt with American support
after the war. The delegation visited the Polish cemetery located on
an adjacent hill, presented a wreath, and conducted a short service.
Polish soldiers had been responsible for the final capture of the
